Today was our best day racing so far. It was very choppy with 3m waves and 25-30 knots of breeze gusting 35! We had some.. interesting.. gybes, broaches and spinnaker runs but overall everyone loved it. These are our favourite conditions! One thing to mention is that Livi was an absolute boss on the ‘shoot’ also that this was our last race as a team probably ever. We had ended the day with a final meal at the club then went home and packed up the house. The next morning we left for NYC at 0400 and arrived short after 1100 so the journey wasn’t too bad! This left us the rest of the day to be hard core tourists. First we jumped on a ferry to get into Manhattan which gave us a good view of the Statue Of Liberty. We grabbed some hot dogs, took the subway to 34th street and went up the Empire State Building (it was amazing). Time square was next on the list and it was just as you imagined it: billboards everywhere, a buzzing atmosphere and crammed with shops and people. It was now time to go home and we arrived at the airport (after a very stressful journey thinking we were going to miss the flight) and, after an emotional good bye, Millie, Livi, George and I were off back to the UK!

Racing canceled. In bigger news my trade mark yellow wellies are no more as one is sitting at the bottom of the lake. The weather let us down today: no wind and lots of rain although we did enjoy jumping around in the puddles and getting very wet playing basketball! In the morning we made our way to the start line but the wind got less and less and there was apparently a 40 knot front coming through so we headed in and never got back out again (Alex was very upset about this). We got hot chocolates, bought some clothes and then came home and went for a dip in the lake! We’re off to the AGM dinner in 10 minutes so time to get ready! More video’s to come…
Racing! Two very long days, out on the water at 8.30 and not back till 5 with 4 races each day. We had a ‘cook out’ after the races yesterday and tonight is rum night! (not for us unfortunately). The wind was so light yesterday that between races people were swimming off their boats, it picked up in the afternoon though when the lake breeze came through, yes the lake breeze, and we had 2 fun races. Today the wind stayed around 12 knots swinging all over the place generating postponement after postponement. We really enjoyed the races but with us all being very competitive the atmosphere of the boat was sometimes.. tense. Overall the weather, wind and location kept spirits high and we all had a great time on both days.
Some events of the last 2 days:
The Best Gybe we’ve ever done followed by our worst!
The spinnaker halyard came off while the spinnaker was up on the downwind leg. This left Alex to climb the mast and retrieve it which the other boats were very impressed with.
Missing the practice race because we were getting bacon butte’s.
Me elbowing Livi in the face whilst hoisting the jib.
Great Expectations handing out a big can of whoop ass today!
Beating Team GB in the last race.
Another early start to a clear sky and bright sunshine. We came face to face with our main competition when we arrived at the club: the American Youth Team consisting of five 15/16 year old boys. After introductions we got straight out on the water for our last day of training before the competition tomorrow. The wind was light giving us a chance to concentrate on the finer details. .I think we need to highlight the fact that we under sailed Kevin for a second time today!
We had our second road trip this afternoon to Niagara Falls. Millie and I couldn’t find any words to describe it other than a magical. We ended the evening with a delicious meal overlooking the now luminated fall’s. We could not have asked for better weather or a better experience. Great Day.

Day 2 – Video
Firstly shout out to the oldies for letting us use the brand new sails!!
We got up at 6.30 for a breakfast of waffles, maple syrup with added sugar and bagels. George than proceeded to drop his socks down the toilet and we were off on our road trip to Rochester! The CD competition was underway with a strong start from Livi promptly ruined by a hairspray recital leaving Millie to take the title with her winner Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.
9 hours later we arrived just in time to watch the sunset at our new home for the week.
